Gas inFusion is a proprietary, worldwide-patented mass transfer technology developed by inVentures Technologies incorporated. PRO2Spa® is a proprietary process and equipment system based on the Gas inFusion technology. The equipment, like the technology is simple, small, and effortless to operate. PRO2Spa® is designed to dramatically raise the dissolved oxygen levels in spas, hot tubs, pools, and baths. This dissolved oxygen level can be characterized by the oxygen partial pressure.
What is Oxygen Partial Pressure? In a sealed room, filled with air, any vessel of water will after a sufficient period of time reach equilibrium with the surrounding air. The larger the vessel, the more days it will actually take. The air in this room is actually exerting a pressure on the person of about 760 mmHg, of which 21% (or 159 mmHg) is the oxygen partial pressure. Also, any part of that person’s body which is under water is also being subjected to 159 mmHg of oxygen partial pressure, since, the water contains dissolved air. This 159 mmHg is typically the dissolved level experienced by a bather in a spa or hot tub. If the room were to be sealed with pure oxygen instead of air then, at equilibrium, that person would be experiencing about 760 mm Hg of oxygen partial pressure, both in and out of the water.
PRO2Spa® infuses a portion of the water from a vessel with large quantities of dissolved oxygen and returns that water to the vessel. Very quickly, a PRO2Spa® unit will raise the dissolved oxygen level in a hot tub or pool not only to 760 mmHg but to levels exceeding 1000 mmHg - all this while the air in the room is still just air!
How can this happen? The water that enters the PRO2Spa® unit is first pressurized up to as much as 60 psi (4 bar). This pressurized water is contacted with equally pressurized oxygen within the actual gas infusion cartridges. These cartridges are designed in such a way that equilibrium between the water and the oxygen inside the cartridges can be approached not in a matter of days, but in a matter of seconds! It is not unusual for the pressurized water exiting an infusion cartridge to contain dissolved oxygen levels of 2000 mmHg, or higher. This highly oxygenated water is returned to the tub or pool.
Won’t the oxygen simply bubble off quickly like opening a bottle of pop? The answer is no. Oxygen is not the same as the carbon dioxide used to carbonate soft drinks. Oxygen will eventually come out of solution but only very slowly. In fact, a hot tub that is shut down overnight with a dissolved oxygen content of 760 mmHg, without the PRO2Spa® unit running, will still have up 600 mmHg the next morning!
The way in which the water is returned from the unit to the tub or pool is one of the unique features of the PRO2Spa®. On the ‘clear’ setting the water in the hot tub will remain clear and bathers will observe effervescence at the surface. This is the escape of nano sized oxygen bubbles from the water to the air. All the while small micro bubbles of oxygen will begin to nucleate or coalesce on the bather’s body. On the ‘Oxycrème’ setting, the water returns from the PRO2Spa® in the form of a pearl white mist that spreads out over the entire surface of the spa, tub or pool. Bathers will experience substantially more bubble nucleation, to point where it feels like a micro massage all over their entire body.
The reaction to oxygen use varies from true believers to skeptics. The true believers swear it can boost energy, stamina, mental alertness, and muscle recovery, slow hair loss and the aging process, and provide relief to several medical problems. Some skeptics say that oxygen possesses no real benefit for healthy individuals. However, life cannot exist without oxygen and there are many, many testimonials about the very positive affects of supplemental oxygen!!
We live in an age of increasingly informed consumers and there are a number of markets right now where the use of oxygen is ubiquitous:
- Pro sports teams regularly use hyperbaric oxygen therapy in their training rooms and some individual team members own a “plastic bag” type of hyperbaric chamber to provide performance recovery and enhancement;
- Sport teams use both air and oxygen baths for treatment of participant injuries and muscle recovery;
- High-end spas are being built at an ever-increasing rate across the world to serve those seeking to remain youthful and healthy;
- Cosmetic manufacturers advertise use of oxygen in facial and skin creams to fight aging; and
- Oxygen bars are opening in many areas of the world for those who want a gulp of extra oxygen.
PRO2Spa® versus Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT): Hyperbaric chambers were first used by divers to guard against the bends which occurs when blood gases expand when a diver reduces pressure on their body too quickly when rapidly coming from deep waters. Athletes and people needing enhanced oxygen have used HBOT for oxygen therapy. Typically the pressures are about 2 partial pressures of oxygen. The downside affects are the repercussions from being in the equivalent of 66 feet of water and having that pressure on all the body’s sinuses and membranes. Alternatively, PRO2Spa® maintains 1.5 partial pressures of oxygen in either a warm spa or an ice water spa while in the open air. The PRO2Spa® user experiences all of the oxygen and none of the pressure side effects prevalent with HBOT use. The PRO2Spa is a fraction of the cost of HBOT and can be easily operated by anyone.
inVentures has developed the PRO2Spa® process and equipment to reliably and safely deliver oxygen to spa tubs, whether they be in a commercial spa setting, professional sports locker rooms, or even for home use. A PRO2Spa® system may consist of one, two or four infusion cartridges, a small pump, control panel, oxygen and water lines and an oxygen supply.
PRO2Spa® can be built into existing spa equipment, or easily connected to plain vessels as no additional pumps or jets are required.
PRO2Spa® has been demonstrated to:
- Deliver a unique experience unavailable at any other spa with either a clear spa or clouding it with oxygen and giving it the PRO2Spa® Oxycrème Bath affect
- Produce high levels of dissolved oxygen in warm water unachievable by any other process
- Create an oxygen partial pressure phenomena equal to about 1.5 atmospheres in a hot tub at 40ºC (104ºF)
- Combine advanced technology with easy to operate and robust construction
- Rapidly oxygenate any size spa, tub or pool with extreme efficiency
- Retrofit to any spa installation with its small footprint
- Be fitted with built-in oxygen generator to eliminate the need for handling pressurized oxygen cylinders
- Deliver equal efficiency with both fresh and salt water spas
- Adapt easily to large commercial spa operations as well as individual spas or tubs
PRO2Spa® units are available for demonstration and sale.
